What is ORTHO-K?
Lenses that work when you aren’t wearing them!
Ortho-K is a great alternative to traditional glasses, contact lenses or more invasive procedures like LASIK.
This is a non-surgical, reversible method to correct vision. Custom hard contact lenses are shaped for each individual eye. They are worn every night during sleep so upon awakening, and removal of the special lenses, there is no need for glasses or lenses during the day!
HOW DOES IT WORK
- Consultation: at the initial visit, your eye doctor will assess your eye health, prescription, shape or your cornea and more to determine if you are a suitable candidate
- Lens fitting: custom lenses are created to the shape and prescription of your eye. Multiple visits are sometimes needed before the perfect lens is created.
- Lens usage: you wear the lenses every night while you sleep and they gently reshape the front of the eye called the cornea
- Day time FREEDOM!: after awaking and taking out the lenses, you can enjoy not wearing glasses or contact lenses during the day and have clear vision!
- Maintenance: proper lens hygiene and storage, and check-ins with your doctor are critical to success with ortho-k
Important:
- Ortho-k is a fantastic option for many, but it may not be suitable for everyone and results may vary. Effectiveness of treatment depends on severity of prescription, eye health and shape of cornea, as well as adherence to wearing lenses every night for 6-8 hours.
- The effects of Ortho-K are temporary – meaning if you stop wearing the lenses, the cornea will gradually return to its former shape and vision will return to the way it was before initiating treatment.
